The following is a general guide to Video Production Process in Singapore.
1. Brief
Every creative project begins with a brief and outline of the scope of work, along with objectives, budgets and deliverables.
This helps both the Client and the Video Production House align on expectations and the requirements of the project.
2. Proposal, Pitch & Budgets
The second stage is where video agencies would pitch directions, concepts and storyboards to the client with a clear breakdown of a quotation.
The client can then decide based on his/her criteria for selection – creative input, quotation, portfolio style, vibe etc.
Pro Tip: It’s not always about price first. It is also important to feel right with the vendor you’re working with!
3. Sign Off & Pre Production
After both parties have agreed to working with each other, here enter the Pre-Production phase.
In this phase, the proposal and storyboard is being expanded further and a Producer would come into the picture to handle the misc requirements of the project.
Some of this include casting, location scouting, sourcing for crew etc. This will be done simultaneously with the creative storyboard as we work towards the shoot date.
4. Production
The production phase is a relatively straightforward phase and will take place over a couple of days depending on the scope of what needs to be filmed.
Sometimes, it is a 1-day shoot. Other times, it may take up to a week. Typically, a shoot day is assumed to be a 10-hour shoot where additional hours beyond the 10th hour are deemed to be overtime hours – chargeable at a 1.5x rate per crew.
5. Post Production
The Post-Production phase begins after the production phase and is at the final segment of the project.
This is the part where rushes are assembled based on the creative direction – arguably one of the most important parts where the Director, Editor, Audio Team comes in.
Think of it as the final plating and assembly before a dish is served out of the kitchen. You’ll have the chef a.k.a director approving the edit before it is sent to the client.
We hope this guide has been helpful for you to understand the process better.
